Shops and shopping
We buy things at a shop.
We buy milk and drinks at a shop called a milk bar.
We buy fruit and vegetables at the greengrocer.
We buy bread at a shop called a bakery.
We can buy all of these things, and more, at one big shop. It's the supermarket.
At the shopping mall there are lots of shops.
......................................Hundreds of people shop at the busy mall.
We can also shop at a market. At a market, traders (people selling stuff) set up stalls and display their goods. Buyers can wander from stall to stall, browsing and buying. Markets of this kind have been around for hundreds of years. It is one of the oldest ways to shop.
A department store is another kind of shop. It is one big shop selling a huge range of goods.
Goods sold in shops come from farms and factories and are delivered using trucks and vans.
Some food sold in the shops comes from farms. Eggs, meat, fruit and vegetables come from farms.
Some food is made in a factory. Cheese, pasta, fruit juice, jam and corn flakes are some kinds of food made in a factory.
Clothing and furniture, books and music CCs are also made in factories and then sent to shops to be sold.
